11 nights/ 12 daysIncluding London, Canterbury, Edinburgh ![]() Changing of the Guard DAY 1: USA-LONDONDepart on an overnight flight to London, England.DAY 2: LONDONArrive London airport where your tour escort will greet you and assist your transfer to the hotel. This afternoon you have time to explore London on your own and become acclimated to a new time zone. Welcome dinner at the hotel. (D)DAY 3: HIGHLIGHTS of LONDONWe explore London and visit the Houses of Parliament and the Tower of London with its amazing crown jewels exhibit. Also tour Westminster Cathedral and Hall, the great St. Paul’s Cathedral, and see the Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace. On our panoramic tour see the major sights such as Tower Bridge and London Bridge, Big Ben, Piccadilly Square, West End theater section and Trafalgar Square. Celebrate Mass at the Westminster Catholic Cathedral. Overnight London. (B.D.)DAY 4: CANTERBURY- LEEDS- DOVERDrive through Kent, the Garden of England, with its lush fields and pretty villages to medieval Canterbury. Its splendid Norman cathedral was the scene of the murder of Thomas Becket in 1170 when he was the Archbishop of Canterbury. We visit the Cathedral and have time to walk the cobbled stone streets made famous by Chaucer’s Pilgrims in Canterbury Tales. We also visit Leeds (left), a fairy-tale castle over 1,000 years old, set on an island in the middle of a lake and surrounded by beautifully landscaped gardens; also known as Lady's Castle because of the many Queens of England who called the castle home. We'll see the magnificent White Cliffs of Dover, renowned for its great stretch of white chalk cliffs and from where, on a clear day, we can see the shores of Normandy Beaches. Overnight London. (B.D.)DAY 5: SUDBURY- AYLESFORD -LONDONOur first stop is Sudbury, to see the home of Thomas Gainsborough and visit the Sudbury Cathedral and St. Gregory’s Church. Our drive through the breathtaking English countryside continues to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel. One of the greatest gifts given to the Church by the Holy Mother is the Brown Scapular. Here in 1251 Our Lady appeared to Simon Stock, the prior of Carmelite Order at Aylesford. In the apparition the Blessed Mother gave Simon the brown woolen scapular as a sign that we are all children under her protection. As a consequence we now have the “Scapular Devotion”. Throughout the ages the church encouraged wearing of the scapular, and those who wear it are considered to be under special protection of Our Lady. Here we celebrate Mass and meet the Carmelite friars. Overnight London. (B.)DAY 6: STONEHENGE-BATH - SALISBURY- LONDONDepart London for a visit to Stonehenge where we ponder this intriguing prehistoric mystery. Then on to the Georgian city of Bath, where we visit the Roman baths Museum and have time for a stroll and lunch on your own. Continue on to Salisbury to see the Cathedral, the ultimate in English Gothic architecture and have tea in the quaint market town. Arrive London in early evening. (B.D.)DAY 7: OUR LADY OF WALSINGHAM- CAMBRIDGEToday we travel to one of the oldest, yet least known Marian shrine, Our Lady of Walsingham, this was considered one of the four major Christian Shrines along with Rome, Jerusalem and Santiago de Compostela. Today it is the National Shrine of Our Lady and a center for Marian devotion and hospitality in Great Britain. We visit the Catholic Slipper Chapel as well as the new Loreto Shrine, which contains the stautue of Mother of God and now belongs to the Anglican church, so consequently Walsingham is now visited by both Catholics and Anglicans. The day ends with a walking tour of the University City of Cambridge, including King’s College and Chapel. Overnight Cambridge. (B.D.)DAY 8: CAMBRIDGE-YORK-MiddlesbroughAfter breakfast continue to Edinburgh, Scotland. We stop in York, one of the most beautifully preserved cities in England. A walking tour includes the medieval cobbled streets known as ‘shambles’ to the Cathedral of St. Peter, which contains incredibly beautiful stained glass windows, and the majestic York Minister. We celebrate Mass at St. Margaret Clitheroe church. We visit the ruins of the Fountain Abbey before arriving in Middlesbrough for an overnight. (B.D.)DAY 9: MIDDLESBROUGH- LINDISFARNE (HOLY ISLAND)-EDINBURGHWe visit the lavish newly created Alnwick Garden with its breathtaking fountains and gardens, and Alnwick Castle the second largest inhabited castle in England. Here you see the setting for Harry Potter’s films. In the afternoon we see Lindisfarne (Holy Island) where St. Aidan established a monastery in AD 635. Following Mass we travel through the breathtakingly beautiful scenery to Edinburgh, Scotland. Overnight Edinburgh. (B.D.)DAY 10: EDINBURGHAfter breakfast join a full day tour of the Edinburgh area visiting Dunfermline Abbey, Edinburgh Castle to view the Scottish crown jewel, the Holyrood Palace where “Mary Queen of Scots” once lived, bustling Princes Street, Royal Mile and more. We visit the Scotch Whiskey Heritage Center for a tour and a tasting and stop for shopping in woolen and crystal shops. Overnight in Edinburgh. (B.)DAY 11: EDINBURGH- ST.
