DAY 1: DEPART USA
Depart New York on an overnight flight to Lisbon airport.
DAY 2: ARRIVE LISBON
Welcome to Portugal. You are greeted at the airport by your tour escort and transferred to your hotel in Cascais, a resort area just outside of Lisbon. Afternoon is your to relax and become acclimated to a new time zone. Tonight we have a welcome dinner and a " Sangria Party". Overnight Cascais. (D.)
DAY 3: LISBON
Today we tour the Portuguese Capital, as we drive to Alto da Serafina Belvedere for a birdseye view of Lisbon. Then on to Belem Tower and a tour of the Royal Coaches Museum (the largest collection in the world) and the Jeronimos Monastery (a marvel of stone lacework). We will also stop at the monument to Henry the Navigator and the Tower of Belem. Then it is back to the center of the city, to visit the Tropical Greenhouses, and the Alfama section of the city. DAY 4: OBIDOS- ALCOBACA- NAZARE- FATIMA- BATALHA
We are transplanted in time as we walk the streets of the beautiful walled village of Obidos. Then drive to Alcobaca for a visit to the 12th century monastery and the tombs of Pedro and Ines. After lunch in Nazare, the most picturesque and colorful of all Portuguese fishing villages, we will continue on to the Batalha Monastery. Next on our agenda is Fatima, one of the centers of Christian pilgrimage, for a look at the Basilica. Overnight Cascais. (B.D.)
DAY 5: QUELUZ- SINTRA
Our first stop is the Palace of Queluz, with its 18th century halls and gardens. Next, we will drive to charming hill town of Sintra, one of the farming centers of Portugal, where we can visit the Royal Palace, and bask in the romance of the city. Overnight Cascais. (B.D.)
DAY 6: ARRABIDA- SESIMBRA- SETUBAL
Today, we will cross over the Tagus River and catch a glimpse of Lisbon from the "Christ in Majesty" statue. Next, we visit a famous wine cellar in Azeitao, where we will have the opportunity to sample some of the wines. Then we stop in Sesimbra, a fishing town and seaside resort, where we can enjoy the splendor of its ancient castle. Our tour next heads across Arrabida Mountain, providing us with a breathtaking view of Setubal. Then it is back to our hotel for dinner and overnight. (B.D.)
DAY 7: LISBON
Full day at leisure to visit Lisbon or lounge by the pool in Cascais. Tonight is a dress up night as we have a farewell dinner with wine and the sad, but beautiful music of Portugal called Fado. (B.D.)
DAY 8: LISBON- USA
This morning you are transferred to the airport and flight home. (B.)
