Your tour escort greets you at the airport, and transfers the group to the hotel for an afternoon at leisure and opportunity to become acclimated with this wonderful Catalan city. Stroll in the Ramblas section and enjoy the city as it becomes alive in the evening. (D.)DAY 3: BARCELONA- MONSERRATThis morning celebrate Mass, followed by a city tour, including the famous Sagrada de Familia Church. In the afternoon travel to the Monastery of Monserrat, to visit the Royal Basilica and view the venerated Black Madonna, which according to tradition was carved by St. Luke. After Santiago and Zaragoza this is the most visited Shrine in Spain. Overnight Barcelona. (B.D.)DAY 4: ZARAGOZA- LOYOLAToday motor west to Zaragoza, to see the Shrine of our Lady of Pillar, where the Blessed Mother appeared to St. James, Patron Saint of Spain in 40 A. D. and celebrate Mass here. Continue to the home of the St. Ignatius de Loyola, founder of the Society of Jesus and the Jesuit Order. Overnight Layola. (B.D.)DAY 5: WAY OF THE PILGRIM- BURGOS- LEONToday you take up the most famous pilgrimage route “ The Way of St. James”. St. James was known as the first pilgrim and every year when July 25, the feast of St. James falls on a Sunday is the Holy Year of St. James. For centuries many pilgrims traveled this route, some for spiritual reasons, some for purification and many for pure adventure of it. You will attend Mass at the great Cathedral of Burgos where many Spanish Kings and Queens are buried, before starting the El Camino de Santiago. Continue to Fromista, an important stop along the Way, where you see the most important relics of the Way, before proceeding to Leon. Here you visit the old town and follow the steps of all the pilgrims before you to the Churches of Santa Ana, and Santa Maria del Mercado, and the Convent of Conception. The highlight of this exploration is the remarkable Cathedral, built in pure Gothic style. Tradition requires that all pilgrims rest their hands on a small pedestal in the church, so as to receive special protection for their pilgrimage. Overnight Leon. (B.D.)DAY 6: LEON- SAMOS- GALICIAWe continue to Astorga with its Episcopal Palace. Then on the the village of O Cebreiro, is where the miracle of the “ holy grail” is said to have occurred. We visit the church of Santa Maria, and see the typical houses with straw thatched roofs. Our next stop is the Benedictine monastery of Samos. Overnight Galicia. (B.D.)DAY 7: SAMOS - SANTIAGO DE COMPOSTELAToday you travel through the Galician Segment of the Way of St. James. This areais Spain’s westernmost region and most obscure, with a culture, language and customs all of its own. You pass through bucolic landscape before arriving to our destination. Through the ages entering Santiago is still as breathtaking as it is still today. Overnight Santiago. (B.D.) DAY 8: SANTIAGO DE COMPOSTELAThe Holy Door which is opened on December 31, 2009 and walled up again a year later starts the Holy Year of St. James officially. Every time the Feast of St. James (July 25th) falls on a Sunday, Holy Year is declared. The next Holy Year following 2010 will be 2021. Pilgrims who come to Santiago and walk through the Holy Doors (fulfill other conditions) are granted Plenary Indulgence. After breakfast you start your tour of the Pilgrims Way. You visit the old city the Cathedral and the Crypt of St. James. You see the Bell Tower and the urn representing the life and work of the Apostle. Visit the Church and the Convent of San Francesco commemorating the pilgrimage made here by St. Francis of Assisi between 1213-1215. You also see the Churches of San Francisco, San Roque, and Santa Clara, and visit the tombs of St. Theodore and St. Athanasius. Overnight Santiago. Mass will be celebrated during the day. (B.D.)DAY 9: SANTIAGO-ALBA de TORMES- SALAMANCAEarly this morning we depart for the small village of Alba de Tormes, where St. Theresa died. You visit the Carmelite Convent where her incorrupt body reposes. Our next stop is the great university city of Salamanca. Here you see the Cathedral built of shells in honor of St. James and the great university. Overnight Salamanca. (B.D.)DAY 10: AVILA- SEGOVIAToday you visit medieval Avila, the City of Kings and of Saints, completely encircled by 11th century walls. This is the birthplace of St. Theresa one of the greatest mystics of the Church, and the city is dedicated to her. Celebrate Mass at the Convent of St. Theresa. Continue to Segovia for overnight. (B.D.)DAY 11: SEGOVIA- MADRIDWe visit Segovia in the afternoon to see the best preserved Roman acquedact, and the Cathedral which was the last one constructed in the Spanish gothic style. We enter the famous Alcazar, perhaps the inspiration for many a fairy tale castle. Outside of Segovia we visit a convent near the Vera Cruz church where St. John of the Cross is buried. A bit further on we see the monastery where Saint Domingo of Guzman founder of the Dominican Order sought penitence. Overnight Madrid. (B.D.)DAY 12: MADRIDThis morning the tour of Madrid includes, a visit to Puerta del Sol, Retiro Park, Plaza de Espana, and the Royal Palace. The afternoon is at leisure to enjoy the Spanish capitol or take an optional tour to Toledo, where vestiges of the many cultures have found a home. Overnight Madrid. Price is based on 32 passengers per bus and the exchange rate of 1.30 USD to Euro and is subject to change based on the exchange rate at the time of final payment. Price can be protected with payment in full. Terms and conditions:PAYMENTS: For individual bookings we require a $ 500.00 per person within 14 days of initial reservations to confirm space. Group space will be held (more than 15 spaces), once we receive the $ 500.00 group deposit for 90 days, when an additional deposit of $ 500.00 per person is due. Please note we cannot hold space unless we receive deposits on time. Final payment is due 60 days before departure. CANCELLATION FEES: $ 500.00 per person cancellation up to 90 days of departure. Within 90 days all payments are non-refundable. Name changes are allowed up until 60 days before departure, with a service fee of $ 150.00 for each name change. MISCELLENOUS: Rates are based on minimum 32 passengers per departure and the exchange rate of 1.30 and will be recalculated at time of final payment which is 60 days before departure, based on the exchange rate in effect at the time. Prices can be guaranteed with full payment only. Airport tax and fuel surcharge will be calculated based on the airline rates at the time of final payment. We accept payments by checks or credit cards check, issued to Select International Tours, Inc. We do not accept credit cards. Names must be spelled exactly as they are in the passport and we require a copy of the passport picture page to be sent in with a deposit.
