Day 1:  DEPART USA

Depart USA on an overnight trip to Munich.

Day 2: MUNICH

Welcome to Germany. You are greeted at the airport by your tour escort and transferred to the hotel. Afternoon is at leisure to become acclimated to a new time zone. Tonight we have a welcome dinner with a Bavarian Evening, with wine or beer and music. Overnight Munich. (D.)

Day 3: HIGLIGHTS OF BAVARIA

A full day is spent exploring Bavaria. The day starts with a visit to King Ludwig's Neuschwanstein Castle. Set amidst magnificent mountain scenery on the shores of the sparkling Schwansee (Swan Lake). This fairy-tale castle was built for the eccentric Bavarian King Ludwig II, and was the inspiration for Cinderella's Castle in Disney World. The views of the surrounding scenery are spectacular. Continue to Oberammergau, famous for its folk-art and the Passion Plays. Admire the colorful devotional paintings on rustic buildings, see the Passion Play theater and shop for handcrafted artwork. Our next stop is the Monastery of Ettal, where we see marvelous works of art and visit the distillery to see how the monks still make the traditional liquor this area is so well known for. We also stop at Weiss Kirche, a lovely sample of local Rococo art. Overnight Munich. (B.D.)

Day 4: NYMPHENBURG PALACE- MUNICH

This morning visit Nymphenburg Palace. One of Europe's most beautiful palaces, in its park-like setting. The palace, originally built in 1664, with construction continuing for some 100 years, was dedicated to the pastoral pleasures of the goddess Flora and her nymphs, hence the name. Once the residence of the Bavarian Kings, the interiors are exceptional. In the afternoon we have a walking tour of Munich highlights. Tonight you have an opportunity to sample some of the local delicacies on your own. Overnight Munich. (B.)

Day 5: SALZBURG

Best known to some as the birthplace of musical genius Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, this Baroque city is dominated by a Fortress on one side, and the Kapuzinrberg, a small mountain, on the other. Few places in the world offer an equivalent abundance of Baroque splendor thanks to the prince-archbishops of the Hapsburg era. The city is also a household name to Americans as the site of the "Sound of Music" film. Upon arriving in Salzburg, a local guide will direct a city tour including admission to Mozart's birthplace. Enjoy some free time in Salzburg before having a dinner at a local restaurant. Return to Munich for overnight. (B.D.)

Day 6: MUNICH-CASTLE HERRENCHIEMSEE

This morning continue our tour with a stop on the beautiful Lake Chiemsee. Here we will visit two beautiful sights, Herreninsel and Fraueninsel. This is Bavarian King Ludwig's II largest castle. The king decided to make a replica of Versailles (near Paris, France), but only managed to build the central portion before funds ran out. What exits is very impressive, with French gardens, a big hall of mirrors, and a state room where classical concerts are held. This palace is located on an island named "Herreninsel" in the lovely Lake Chiemsee. Before returning to Munich, we will stop at the ever so beautiful Konigssee, which is nestled between the mountains. It is one of the purest lakes in Germany. The lake is considered a photographer's paradise. Tonight we have a farewell dinner in a typical German restaurant with wine and beer. Overnight in Munich. ( B. D.)
