DAY 1: USA/VIENNADepart from USA on an overnight flight to Vienna.
DAY 2: VIENNAArrive Vienna, where you are greeted by your tour escort and transferred to the hotel. Afternoon at leisure to become acclimated to a new time zone. Overnight Vienna. (D.)
DAY 3: VIENNAVisit the imperial city, including St. Stephen’s Cathedral and Schonbrunn Palace. Later in the afternoon we drive to the wine village of Grinzing for a lovely dinner and wine tasting. Overnight Vienna. (B.D.)
DAY 4: MARIAZELL-MELKLocated high in the mountains amongst picture perfect scenery, is Our Lady of Mariazell. According to tradition the shrine was built on the spot where a monk found the miraculous statue of the Virgin Mary. We celebrate Mass here and see the famous statue, before departing for Melk Abbey, recognized as one of the finest Baroque buildings in Europe. This is a major spiritual center and one of the main attractions in Austria. We visit the museum, the Abbey Church and the library. Time permitting we also see Our Lady of Maria Taferl, to say a prayer in front of the miraculous image of Our Lady of the Seven Sorrows. Overnight Vienna. (B.D.)
DAY 5: VIENNA–SALZBURGIn the morning we drive through the spectacular countryside to Salzburg, city made famous by Mozart and the film “ The Sound of Music”. Explore the lovely old town, including a visit to the fortress above the city and Mozart’s house. We'll stop to see the statue of the Christ Child of Loreto, and finally shop for the wonderful marzipan Mozart chocolates and Svarowski crystal. Afternoon city tour of Salzburg. (B.D.)
DAY 6: PICTURE PERFECT DAYOur fist stop is the hilltop Shrine of Maria Plain, which inspired Mozart to write his Coronation Mass for the Blessed Virgin Mary. Our next stop will be Chiemsee, at the “Frauen Insel” to visit the Benedictine Monastery. You will recognize the charming island from the pictures of so many German travel brochures. Continue on to visit the famous Herreninsel, Bavarian King Ludwig's II largest castle. The king decided to make a replica of Versailles, but only managed to build the central portion before funds ran out. What exits is very impressive, with French gardens, a big hall of mirrors, and a state room where classical concerts are held. Continue on to Altotting for overnight. (B.D.)
DAY 7: BAVARIAN HIGHLIGHTSWe visit Altotting, the most popular Marian Shrine in Germany. Then on to the Benedictine Monastery of Ettal, see how the friars brew wonderfully tasting beer and liquor. We then see the lovely Weiskirche, a breathtaking example of Baroque art and home of the Passion Play. Overnight Oberammergau. (B.D.)
DAY 8: OBERAMMERGAU–LUCERNEAfter a morning in Oberammergau, we'll have an opportunity to shop for local gifts. We leave for Switzerland and the picture perfect town of Lucerne. Overnight Lucerne. (B.D.)
DAY 9: EINSIEDELN![]() Lady Chapel at Einsiedeln
DAY 10: RETURN TO THE U.S.A.Transfer to the airport for your flight back home. (B.)
